The Cellar Discipline
A tracked humidor smokes better than an untracked one. The reasons are simple. First, you never lose a cigar to over-resting (or under-resting); the rest-until column tells you when each box is ready. Second, you build a personal score history; over the years, your KCS scores on the same cigars under different conditions become a calibration record of your own palate. Third, you avoid duplicate purchases.
The Columns
- Box ID — your own internal code, e.g., KAU-001 through KAU-NNN
- Brand & Vitola — Padrón 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo, etc.
- Wrapper / Origin / Box Code — for vintage tracking and counterfeit detection
- Quantity Acquired / Remaining — for reorder triggers
- Purchase Date / Price / Vendor — for vendor performance review
- Rest Until — date when the box is considered ready to smoke (typically 3-6 months after purchase)
- Last Smoked / KCS Score — your evaluation history
- Notes — free-form observations
